Samardžić, University of Osijek, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Slavonski Brod, Croatia Intercrystally distributed nonmetallic inclusions g reatly increase weld susceptibility to hot crack ing. Oxide and sulphide inclusions are the result of contaminated base material or its highly oxidised surfaces and they can be a consequence of metallurgical reactions between welding slag and remelted base material, while carbide inclusions can occur due to the mixing of highcarbon base and low-carbon Ā ller material. All welding surfaces must thus be cleaned before welding and the least possible mixture of base with Ā ller material must be enusured during welding.

A Comparative Evaluation of Welding Consumables for Dissimilar Welds between 310 Austenitic Stainless Steel and Inconel 657
The current work was carried out to characterize welding of AISI 310 austenitic stainless steel to Inconel 657 nickel-chromium superalloy. The welds were produced using four types of filler materials; the nickel-based corresponding to Inconel 82, Inconel A, Inconel 617 and austenitic stainless steels 310. Of the two joints involved, this paper describes the choice of welding consumables for the...
متن کاملInclusion Evolution during Modification of Alumina Inclusions by Calcium in Liquid Steel and Deformation during Hot Rolling Process
The production of clean steel involves the controlling, elimination, or modification of nonmetallic inclusions. In Al-killed steels, alumina is the main type of inclusion. Calcium treatment, by wire feeding, is commonly used to modify solid alumina inclusions to calcium aluminates, which exists in a fully or partially liquid phase. Liquid inclusions can improve steel castability, but make inclu...

متن کاملEffect of buffer layer and electrode composition on the mechanical properties of H13 steel repair welds using shielded metal arc welding
The present study investigated the effect of electrode composition and buffer layer on the microstructure and mechanical properties of H13 tool steel repair welds. Three specimens were welded applying two conditions; i.e. with and without stainless steel underlay. The microstructure of all weld metals contained the martensitic matrix with distributed chromium carbide precipitations. The microst...
